Content "Sometimes he played 'tee-tah-to, three in a row' with the girls, using a slate and pencil in a way known to all school-children." Eggleston 1883: 36. "The "tee-tah to, three in a row" which Eggleston refers to first as "well-known to all school-children" is probably noughts and crosses." time and place also given as Southeast Indiana, 1850.
