Master Y - thorsilver - 02-26-2021

This is a simple one, but it's a nice variation on a true classic.

Master Y is a variant of the Game of Y proposed by Craige Schensted and Charles Titus in their 1975 book Mudcrack Y and Poly-Y.  In Master Y, the first player places one stone, then thereafter, each player places two stones of their colour.  First to connect all three sides wins.

Here is another simple Y variant from Mudcrack Y and Poly-Y: Tabu Y.  In Tabu Y, play proceeds as in normal Y, except that you may not place your stone adjacent to the stone just placed by your opponent.  This simple change creates some significant tactical changes in the game.  Games tend to fill up more of the board as well.

The remaining Y variants from the book are more challenging to implement, but I will try to produce Holey Y and Poly-Y since they are closely related and more significant in my view, given their relationship to the later Craige Schensted games Star and *Star.

Hi,

Thanks for that submission.
I am adding it to Ludii, the game comes from a public paper of 1975 so that should be ok to add it.

Regards,
Eric
