piece value (section 13.6.4) - slimy_asparagus - 12-25-2020

The "piece" ludeme allows one to express the state of a piece. Surely for the sake of consistency one should be able to set value in the piece ludeme as well.

(On a side note, I still miss the ability to set the value in the equipment section. It's great that you can change the value, but quite often a value will be fixed throughout a game. That is a particular value could be inherent in the category of a piece. That is lost.)

Hi,

I keep that in mind, but the piece ludeme is a special case used for some ludemes, so the code will have to be updated everywhere to take the value in account, so I keep that for a future work.

For the same argument of what you said (for consistency), the value is better to be dynamic and not fixed. So not in the equipment but in the starting rules.

Regards,
Eric

Philosophically I can't agree. The state of something cannot be intrinsic to its nature. However the value of something may or may not be intrinsic to its nature. If a language is trying to express the nature of a game, then being able to say a piece's value is intrinsic is required.

In practical terms I totally agree. You've got 99 problems and the intrinsic value of pieces ain't one of them.
