misspelling in fanorona - Alain Busser - 04-19-2024

There are 3 types of fanorona, called after the number of columns :
  • fanorona-telo is Ovid's game (telo means 3, so the board has 3 columns - and 3 rows), so not a fanorona; the real fanorona have 5 rows:
  • fanorona-dimy is played on a 5×5 alquerque board as it has 5 columns (dimy means 5 in malagasy),
  • but fanorona-sivy is played on 9 columns, as suggest its name (sivy means 9 in malagasy).

Any word beginning with "tsi" in malagasy suggests a negation (for example tsivoky which means "which does not fill").

Up to my point: I have seen many references (including wikipedia) where the name fanorona-sivy is spelled fanorona-tsivy which is absolutely not correct!!!

So I suggest that in ludii fanorona-sivy be better written than in numerous text books where an error happened sometime and was spreaded all over the world (except Madagascar of course). This concerns this file : https://ludii.games/lud/games/Fanorona.lud
