Card games - Michael - 10-11-2020

I would love to see a trick-taking card game implemented. I’m working on one myself, but I feel a bit lost without an example to guide me. In particular, I’m wondering if there is an intended/best way of representing the site to which one plays a card in a trick?

Hi Michael,

Even if the card games are in the scope of Ludii, we did not focus on them for now. We have some little card games in our personal games (not published) but we are not sure of a right syntax for them at the moment. Consequently, I can not really help you with card games.

I guess (but I can not be sure), we will be a bit more focus on the card games next year and the ludemes currently available for some cards features can change of syntax.

Regards,
Eric

Has there been progress made on this in the last year?

Hi,

Unfortunately not, we looked a little bit and we know for sure that we can do it but we have to discuss a lot the different ludemes to add to be able to model smartly all the card games (+ a little bit of GUI to implement). And this last year was really busy for us so no time to spend on them.
However in one of our last meetings we said that maybe next year, I am gonna look more closely at them, but I can't promise anything.

Regards,
Eric

Perhaps a game like Scopa would be easier to implement? It doesn't deal with regular trick-tacking, but let's you collect cards whenever your card and some cards on the table add up to the same number of points (or in the A Quindici variant: whenever the sum of your card and some other cards is exactly 15 points). It's mostly regular mathematics that way.

Hi,

See my answer here: https://ludii.games/forums/showthread.php?tid=1544
And thank you for Scopa, I did not know that game, that can be useful for this future work :)

Eric
