Hexagonal chess variants in v1.0.6 - JayCoskey - 09-14-2020

It’s great to see the variants of hexagonal out there. Thanks! Here are some minor issues, in decreasing order of importance.

Functionality:
  • Brusky Chess: Pawns cannot capture diagonally from home row, but should be able to. My bad. For a fix, see the Pawn movement rules in the Brusky Chess file submitted on 2020-09-13.
Documentation:
  • The Wikipedia link in the metadata for Brusky Chess doesn’t show as a link (though it does in all the other hexagonal chess variants).
  • The Wikipedia article referenced from the metadata section of Mini Hexchess doesn’t include the starting setup for the game. I suggest adding a link to the game’s page on the Chess Variant Pages, at https://www.chessvariants.com/hexagonal.dir/minihex.html  (See the metadata in the Mini Hexchess file submitted on 2020-09-13.)
  • All the hexagonal chess variants except Shafran Chess have a trailing typo in the metadata origin section, perhaps as the result of an automated edit.
Appearance:
  • In hexagonal chess boards with a center cell, it’s traditional to have it colored Grey (or the color with mid-level brightness). Due to changes in cell coordinates across Ludii versions, the color of the center cell in Wellisch chess is no longer grey. This just requires swapping two values. Specifically, changing:
        (regions “Region-Grey” (sites Phase 2))
        (regions “Region-Red” (sites Phase 1))
        to
        (regions “Region-Grey” (sites Phase 1))
        (regions “Region-Red” (sites Phase 2))
  • Similarly, the center cells for Glinski and McCooey chess are not grey. The fix is similar to the fix for Wellisch Chess given above. (See the files for these submitted on 2020-09-13.)
  • In Mini Hexchess, the Scale setting for Queens can be removed, since there aren’t any Queens in Mini Hexchess. Similarly, in Wellisch Chess, the Scale setting for Bishops can be removed, since there aren’t any Bishops in Wellisch Chess.

Cheers,
Jay

Hi Jay,

I applied all these changes to our dev version.
They will appear in the next release.
