request: show Priority moves - dale walton - 08-20-2020

I think it may be desirable to have this option to show the "forced" moves that come up, but not the other general move choices for some games.  Either as game enforced option, and/or as a player application option.

Not a high priority feature, but a nice to have.

Hi,

This should already be done implicitly, i.e. if one type of move supercedes another then the legal move list should only contain those moves that the player can make at that point (not the subordinate moves).

If this is not what you mean, please point us to a .lud that shows the issue.

Yes it is done implicitly.

But what I mean is an option to show moves ONLY for moves that are in the priority clause, and not for the rest. Like a player saying this turn you are forced to move here, but not giving you hints for the normal choices.

Hi,

But that's how it works already: is the "Show Possible Moves" option is on, then only the legal moves are shown. If there are forced moves, then only the forced moves will be shown.

If this is not you have in mind, you'll have to give a specific example.

--- Right, but when the moves aren't forced it shows available moves.
The option I am suggesting is to show forced moves when they exist but not show available moves when they are not priority moves. i.e. To do a special show moves option that only applies to moves in the priority section.

Sounds a bit subjective and would probably depend on having these priority moves defined for all specific contexts for all possible .lud files and all possible rules configurations.

Maybe. One way would be to have a "Show" option for the "priority" ludeme or even the "move" ludeme - but I was thinking it more useful under player control. That would mean having a "showLevel:<int>" as option for moves, so that players could choose how much hinting to receive by selecting a level.

Anyway, sounds a bit involved, so not a priority.
