I want to be able to detect crosscuts in some general way , and determine if a piece is within a crosscut or not.

No the pattern ludeme is not currently implemented.
But yes, that's one we will add in a future release.

Hi, every time I see a new release I check the release notes for whether pattern recognition is here yet.
In my case, I only need to detect cross-cuts on a square board, like this:

Anyway, hope I don't ask too often about this, just want to give a gentle reminder once in a while about it.

I finally did the (is Pattern ...) ludeme. So it will be added to the next release.
When we will publish it, if you have issue with it tell me ;) you will be our test case for this ludeme ^^
